Social Responsibility

Great Northern Mall is proud to be a community partner. We strive to meet community challenges through a combination of employee volunteerism, financial support, in-kind donations and partnerships with non-profit organizations which have missions consistent with our vision and values.

Community Partnerships

Vera House
The Vera House Survivors' Art and Poetry exhibit at Great Northern Mall is over 100 feet long and is covered from end to end with breathtaking over-sized prints of art images and soul-stirring poetry - all created by and for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. The permanent exhibit, on display in the Sears wing across from the Post Office, is filled with art and poetry created through the Vera House Art of Caring program.  The Art of Caring is a unique project that brings together gifted artists and a caring community to offer hope and healing to our neighbors in crisis and celebrate the joy of the arts in our lives.  Through the Art of Caring, Vera House invites artists and performers to use their creativity as a forum to speak out against domestic and sexual violence.  To learn more about Vera House and this important project, please click here

The Rescue Mission
Make the Rescue Mission your mission this holiday season!  There are many volunteer opportunities available at the Gifford Street campus.  The Rescue Mission is in need of meal packers and deliverers, kitchen helpers, gift wrappers, holiday party helpers, and holiday donation center volunteers.  To learn details, to donate items or volunteer for a holiday opportunity, please call the Rescue Mission's Holiday Phone Center at 315.701.3898 between 9am and 4pm Monday through Friday starting October 13.

The Salvation Army
Beginning in early November, the Salvation Army's Red Kettle and Tree of LIghts will be at Great Northern Mall.  Help the needy by donating, or volunteer to ring the bell or distribute gifts to over 2,500 low-income families in Onondaga County.  To learn more about how you can help the Salvation Army, call 315.479.1321.

Contribution Requests

Each year, Great Northern Mall will contribute a preset amount of funds in the form of Gift Cards, merchandise and use of property to a diverse group of organizations. Hundreds of requests are anticipated each year. Donation recipients may include civil organizations' education programs; food banks; foundations; hospitals and healthcare organizations; youth programs; performing arts and museums and many more. Each request is reviewed carefully, however, not all requests can be granted.
