It’s October – the spookiest month of the year! Children delight in tricks, treats and outrageous costumes, but why should the kiddos have all the fun? Mom and Dad can get in on the action, too, choosing infectiously fun decorations for the home. Make this Halloween more festive and fa-boo-lous than ever and follow these decorating tips to bring the holiday into your own (haunted) house!
Put Some Scream in Your Color Scheme
Are orange, black and white not part of your home’s color palette? Worry not – there are easy ways to embrace these Halloween hues for the season. Try draping white sheets over sofas and loungers for that haunted house feel. Switch out your window treatments with black curtains or spooky panels, or hang black cloth napkins over your lampshades. Fill glass vases with orange and black colored candies or with candy corn. Add black and orange accents such as plates, napkins, tablecloths, hand towels, throw pillows, and candles around your home to achieve that perfect Halloween vibe (even in your bathroom!).
Add Spooky Accents to Your Décor
Make use of easily available window decals such as ghosts, bats, and haunted house scenes. They are easy to peel on and off (so that they can be reused another year) and cause zero damage. Add in stretchy, Halloween-themed paper garlands and streamers that can be draped across windows or hung from any wall. Cotton cobwebs add a spooky to touch to windowsills and mantles. Hang a bat mobile by stringing rubber bats from a window or doorframe, or take a few large rubber insects and place them creepily crawling up any wall. Purchase some glowing or googly eyeballs and place them on mirrors throughout your home for that “being watched” feel!

Creep Outside
Turn your home into a haunted house by adding tombstones, skeletons and pumpkins to your lawn. Take the fuss out of pumpkin carving by purchasing realistic-looking artificial pumpkins and gourds. Jack-o-lanterns that work with battery operated candles give off that festive Halloween vibe. Lastly, hang orange string lights outside of your home for that boo-tiful finishing touch!
Get into the Halloween spirit this year and take your decorations to the next level – it's time to be festive and fa-boo-lous!
